what is it?
Water exercise involves movements, specially designed for the water, to increase cardiovascular fitness, muscular fitness, and flexibility. Water exercise can be done in shallow or deep water with minimal equipment. Because the exercises are done in the water there is almost no impact on the joints. All programs are designed by your personal trainer to meet your specific needs and goals.
who is it for?
Water exercise is great for anyone looking to improve their fitness level without the impact often found with land exercise. Water exercise is often recommended for those with arthritis, joint pain, fibromyalgia, low back pain, knee pain, pregnancy or other conditions that are aggravated by high impact activities. Water exercise can be modified by your personal trainer to be either very gentle or a very difficult workout. Also, because water exercise can be done in shallow water or with the assistance of a flotation belt you do not need to be a good swimmer to do water exercise.
what are the benefits?
Water exercise will benefit you in many ways. By increasing your activity levels you will be decreasing your risk for disease, increasing energy levels, improving body composition, gaining strength, and gaining self-confidence. Specifically, water exercise can improve cardiovascular and muscular fitness as well as flexibility. Because water makes you buoyant you will significantly reduce the impact put on your joints compared to land exercise.
where does it take place?
In order to do water exercise you will have to have access to a pool. Your personal trainer can come to your home pool, a neighborhood pool, an apartment complex pool, or any pool that will allow an outside personal trainer to work.
